A little help.
Then back to work.

Setup and troubleshooting for DockSwitch.

Start with your Dock

  1. Open DockSwitch from Applications. Settings opens the first time.
  2. In Automatic, choose one or more modifier keys. Option (⌥) is the default.
  3. Use the “Your Dock shortcuts” list to see which app each number opens. Finder is skipped; only pinned apps count. The tenth app uses 0.
  4. Press the shortcut to launch or bring an app forward. Once it is in front with a visible window, press again to hide it.

Shortcuts keep working when you close settings. Turn off “Enable shortcuts” to pause them, or use Pause Shortcuts in the menu bar menu.

Give an app its own shortcut

  1. Open the Manual tab and click Add (+).
  2. Choose an installed application.
  3. Click its shortcut recorder and press your chosen key combination.

Manual assignments take priority over matching Automatic shortcuts. Choose a combination you don’t already need in another app. Command-number combinations, for example, often switch browser tabs.

Chrome, minimized windows, and full-screen Spaces

DockSwitch switches apps, not individual windows or browser tabs. It asks macOS to reopen and activate the selected app. Chrome and macOS decide which of Chrome’s windows comes forward.

If switching still takes several presses, email us with the DockSwitch and macOS versions, the target app/version, whether its window was minimized or full screen, and your shortcut. Please don’t include private page contents, documents, passwords, or browsing history.

No apps appear in Automatic

Pin an app to the Dock using its Dock menu → Options → Keep in Dock. Recent apps and Finder aren’t numbered. You can also choose apps directly in Manual.

An app moved or is missing

Update the pinned Dock icon, or remove the old Manual entry and add the app from its current location. Re-record the shortcut for the new entry.

Reopen settings without the menu bar icon

Open DockSwitch from Applications or Spotlight. Its settings window reopens even when the menu bar icon is hidden.

Start at login

Enable “Start at login” in the General tab. If macOS requests approval, allow DockSwitch in System Settings → General → Login Items. You can disable it there or in DockSwitch.
